Dramaturgy

I see dramaturgy as an extension of my public humanities work and teaching. From new play development to production dramaturgy, I engage in deep interdisciplinary research and draw on pedagogical principles to support the creation of authentic theatre and develop interactive, informative experiences for audiences.

BippoWorld

There's a constant presence in the background of influencer Dana's vlogs: Bippo, who has been around since Dana's interrupted abortion three years ago. When Bippo breaks free at a cryptocurrency panel, Dana—and the rest of the internet—are forced to grapple with what it means for Bippo to exist.

As a dramaturg in First Kiss Theatre’s annual FebLab program in 2025, I supported playwright Elise Wein in creating BippoWorld, a timely story about care, perception, and our online world, and developed the play’s multimedia element using World of Text.

The digital piece was presented at the First Kiss FebLab Showcase at Easy Lover in Brooklyn, New York in March 2025.

Too Hot, Too Cold, Just Right

The lights dim to pink and the world goes all slow-motion. She leaned in for a kiss and...

Is that it? Wasn’t it meant to feel like fireworks? Is there something missing?

Jade cannot shake the questioning voice in her head, and it’s getting louder…

I served as the dramaturg for the research and development process of Burning Attic Theatre’s new play on asexual and aromantic identity. Burning Attic’s creative process is relies on engagement with lived experiences and a grounded theory approach to creating investigatived devised plays, so my role involved developing an interview guide, conducting oral histories, and analyzing interviews, as well as providing my academic expertise in creative workshops.

The play had its first script-in-hand development performance at Camden People's Theatre in London, United Kingdom in November 2024.

Artists Anonymous

It's a well-known stereotype that life as an artist is difficult. Pay is low, employment is precarious, and the phenomenon of chronic, unaddressed stress, best known as burnout, is common.

However, social science research on artists and burnout has not examined how artists cope with burnout or what resources are available or helpful to a burned-out artist who wants to heal. As a dramaturg for the New Jersey Play Lab’s 2023-2024 Storyteller Studio, I supported playwrights Bailey Udin and Alexis Telyczka by surveying artists to uncover more about their experiences with burnout, which went on to inform the final script, and designing a program note that communicated the survey results in accessible graphics.

The play was performed at the Storyteller Studio Scripted Showcase at Jersey City Theater Center in June 2024.
